Saban Pond once maintained a small brook trout fishery, but very few trout are taken today. Water quality during the summer months, with very little dissolved oxygen below a depth of 10 feet, is the limiting factor in maintaining a population of brook trout.
The addition of smallmouth bass is another important factor limiting the trout fishery. Brook trout cannot effectively compete with bass under marginal water quality conditions.
