Shaker Pond Description

There is an unusually high percentage of unaltered shoreline surrounding this pond. Approximately half the pond's shoreline is developed with seasonal camps and year-round homes. An abundance of shallow water habitat supports dense beds of
aquatic vegetation. Listed principal species are very abundant in the presence of extensive spawning and nursery habitat, and a plentiful supply of forage fish. Recent llegal introductions of black crappie have become well established and are actively sought by anglers. This productive pond
provides an extremely popular local winter fishery.
Significant competition from warmwater fish and a severe late summer oxygen deficiency below the thermocline significantly limit opportunities to manage for coldwater fisheries. Therefore, Shaker
Pond is best managed for warmwater fisheries.
Boat access is limited to a carry-in site located on private property adjacent to Route 202. A day-use fee is charged to access this site. Public access accommodations are tentative and could be
terminated in the future. There is a need to
secure long term public access provisions on this pond.
