Middle Branch Pond Description

Middle Branch Pond thermally stratifies during the summer months, but a severe oxygen deficiency develops below 10 feet deep. This condition significantly limits opportunities to manage for coldwater fish, and to a lesser extent warm water fish. Coldwater fish management is further limited by the presence of competing and predatory warm water fish. Middle Branch Pond is best managed for warm water fish.
Middle Branch Pond was stocked with largemouth bass fingerlings in 1960. This stocking was authorized by the MDIFW and fingerlings were obtained from a USFWS hatchery.
An 18-pound northern pike was caught by an angler in 2002 This apparent new arrival is the result of an illegal introduction and represents the first confirmed occurrence of northern pike in York County. Northern pike will have downstream access to the Lower Mousam River, including Estes Lake.
Angler access is restricted to permissive trespass and there is a need to develop boat access to this pond.
