Narrow Pond Description

Narrow Pond is a shallow trout pond with about equal water temperatures from top to bottom. When water temperatures become warm, trout seek the cooler areas of spring influence. The pond bottom and shores are muddy except for a rocky area along the southeast shore. The water level of Narrow Pond was formerly about 2 feet higher than its present level because of partial obstruction by a logging road and bridge across the outlet. A fringe of dead trees now surrounds the pond as a result of the previous flooding. The trout population is maintained by natural reproduction in spring areas within the pond. No stocking is necessary urider the present light fishing pressure. Competition from the population of redbelly dace is not a serious factor in reducing trout production. However, the use or possession of live fish as bait is prohibited to prevent introduction of other species of fish that would compete with trout for available food and space. Narrow Pond is limited to a 5-trout daily bag limit. Narrow Pond is accessible by a gravelled logging road through Canada, but is not presently accessible by car from the Maine side.
