Stillwater River Description

The Stillwater River is actually a westerly arm of the Penobscot River, after the Penobscot is split by several large islands. A dam at Old Town on the easterly side of the islands backs up the river and increases the flow of the Stillwater on the westerly side of the islands. Like the Penobscot in general, the Stillwater offers fun, scenic paddling and lots of smallmouth fishing action, though only the uppermost part of the Stillwater is accessible to motorized fishing boats.
