Scituate Pond is located amongst the York and Kittery Water District ponds, and it is one of the few ponds in the area that has remained open to anglers. The pond is
located in a heavily populated area, yet shoreline development has been limited to its southern and southeastern shorelines. The pond is a shallow, homothermous pond with extensive aquatic weed beds,
and the water has a dark tea-color. This pond is being managed for the existing warm water fish species.
In the late 1950's, MDIFW introduced 10,000 largemouth bass fry to improve angling opportunities on the pond.
Largemouth bass are now established, but the population appears to be stunted. There are large numbers of small bass with few legal-size fish. The features of the pond make it susceptible to winter-kill, which may be largely responsible
for the lack of quality-size bass.
A sand-gravel, access ramp with limited parking is located at the southern end of the pond. Anglers should be aware that
internal combustion engines are prohibited on this water.
