I took up fresh water fishing mid-summer this year. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and i am targeting bass. All I have caught are smallies and my hope is to land a largemouth before the end of the fall season. The Presumpscot River is the only fishery that i have explored and I have to say there are some stellar views on this river. I have dragged my 14 year old daughter along with me but if I want to ensure we do catch "something" I will go to Mallison Dam. I am only able to do shore fishing as I do not own a boat so I am looking for good bass spots that are fishable from shore and I am open to other bodies of water aside from the Presumpscot.
Presumpscot River Description
The Presumpscot River is located in Southern Maine's Cumberland County, and flows through the communities of: Windham, Gorham, Westbrook, Falmouth, and Portland. The Presumpscot River drops 270 feet over 25 miles from its start at the outlet of Sebago Lake to its mouth at Casco Bay With a watershed of 648 square miles, the Presumpscot is the largest freshwater input to Casco Bay. Seasonal runs of Striped Bass, Shad, Herring, Alewives, Eel, And possibly Atlantic Salmon and Atlantic Sturgeon occur here. A few dams block the way from sebago to the atlantic creating slower moving freshwater sections well suited for Smallmouth Bass fishing. The name "Presumpscot" has its origin from local native culture and means "many falls" or "many rough places." Before being drowned by dams, the Presumpscot had at least 12 falls along its length.
The Presumpscot River is a 27-mile long river located in Cumberland County, Maine, and it is the main outlet of Sebago Lake. The river flows through the communities of Windham, Gorham, Westbrook, Portland, and Falmouth before emptying into Casco Bay at Falmouth.
