Pleasant Bay Description

Pleasant Bay is a bay in Washington County, Maine at the mouth of the Pleasant River. Located between the towns of Addison and Harrington, on the east it is bordered by Cape Spit and on the west it is separated from Harrington Bay by Ripley Neck, and from Narraguagus Bay by Dyer Island. The bay extends roughly 6 mi. (10 km) and is 2.5 mi. (4 km) at its widest. The Native Americans referred to a quiet inlet off the Bay of Fundy as Monomoyik or roughly translated Pleasant Bay. This bay is excellent for fishing and water bird watching, as well as an extraordinary fest for the eyes of natural resources and beauty. Resting close to Acadia National Park and the Canadian border, the area is a wonderful place for tourists to see and do a great many things in a small area. The area of Maine known as Pleasant Bay is noted for its great scenic beauty and its geological diversity. Tourists who travel here can take advantage of the different daily guided tours to the various regions of the Pleasant Bay Area. This is also a prime location for a kayaker or canoer to explore the area's history and natural surroundings. At Pleasant Bay, you can also view or purchase llamas at a local llama keep. Llamas are interesting, social animals that appear to thrive in the natural surroundings. Other activities include shopping for antiques, fly-fishing in the fresh-water lakes or taking a charter-fishing trip. For a stroll back in time, you can take a walking tour of a historic village that has over 52 buildings of days gone by. There is also a museum filled with memorabilia including photographs, tools, and household items dating from the mid 1800's.
