Damariscotta Lake Description

Vannah Road is a Popular spot. It is public with plenty of room to fish from shore and have very great fishing. Plus a boat launch. Good place to take a kid fishing. Expect to catch something. Have caught 9 pound Large mouths from here.

The park / lake is located below the town of Jefferson off SR 32. Damariscotta Lake has three distinctly different sections: the north, middle, and south basins. The north basin is the deepest, at 114 feet; the middle basin is next at 46 feet; and the south basin is 34 feet deep. Damariscotta Lake State Park is set on the northeastern shore of the north basin. Fishing from boat, canoe or shore is recommended. In the north basin, early season trolling methods are recommended soon after the ice-out for landlocked salmon and brown trout. Streamer flies and smelt seem to be reliable bait. A deep hole just off the shore of the Park is a faithful lake trout catch early in the season and later in the season as well. Lake trout may also be found a little farther out into the north basin. Smallmouth bass tend to congregate around several islands in the middle basin. Lead-head jigs with yellow sparkle tails are suggested bait. The south basin area is shallow and narrow and is known as a good source for pickerel and white perch. Pickerel and white perch love to strike wiggly earthworms and large shiners suspended from bobbers.
